January 16 2013 holiday in Navotas City

Navotas City will be marking its 107th foundation anniversary this January 16, which this year falls on a Wednesday. That day has been declared a special non-working by President Benigno Aquino III through Proclamation 526. The proclamation was signed by executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa in behalf of Aquino last December 13. Click here to read the full text of Proclamation 526.

Dubbed as the “Fishing Capital of the Philippines,” Navotas was once part of Malabon, which borders its east side. Navotas became an independent municipality through Act No. 1442 which was enacted by the Philippine Commission in January 16, 1906 (hence the celebration). Navotas was upgraded into a city through a plebiscite in 2007.
