Is Sheryn Regis lesbian?
In an exclusive report published May 24, entertainment website Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) featured an interview with businesswoman Emy Madrigal. She claims to have been in a relationship with singer Sheryn Regis.
According to Madrigal, she came to know Regis through a pamangkin (We are using this word since PEP did not specify any gender – TFS). “Marami kasi siyang naikuwento kay Sheryn tungkol sa akin. Ako naman, gusto ko rin siyang makilala (“He/she told Sheryn a lot of things about me. And I’m also eager to meet her.”),” Madrigal told PEP.
Regis allegedly revealed her true sexuality to Madrigal around 2005, with the Cebuana singer even admitting that she’s supposedly in love with the businesswoman. Madrigal, by her own admission, has been separated from her husband with whom she had two kids.
Just a year off from her runner-up victory in ABS-CBN’s Star in a Million talent show, Regis was at the height of her popularity in 2005. Her debut single “Come On In Out Of The Rain” (her final piece in SIAM) topped the music charts and was eventually used as the title of her first album.
She sang the theme song for two television series (“Kailan Kaya” for Marina and “Sabihin Sa Akin” for Kampanerang Kuba). Meanwhile, she collaborated with former competitor Erik Santos for the official soundtrack of the movie “Now That I Have You.”
Regis is married to Earl Vincent Echiverri, a relative of former Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri. They have a daughter nicknamed “Sweety.” Last May 2, Regis posted a photo featuring the three of them in her Facebook page.
Still, Madrigal claims that she and Regis became steady since 2011. Throughout their affair, she says she lavished gifts on Regis, even shouldering some of the singer’s living expenses when she lived in Texas, United States. “Lahat ng kailangan niya, basta hiniling niya sa akin, ibinibigay ko (I gave everything that she asked for),” Madrigal told PEP.
However, their romance went downhill when Regis suddenly went incommunicado for several months. It was during this period that Madrigal discovered that the singer is actually having an affair with another woman. In fact, she says that Regis is staying in that woman’s house in Texas.
Madrigal says Regis became confrontational when they last met, with the singer daring her to disclose to the public everything she knows about her. Nevertheless, Madrigal says she has no intention to ruin Regis’ reputation and her family. She explained that she was only bothered by Regis’ threats against her.
Aside from PEP, Pinoy Parazzi is the only other publication that ran this story. So far, Regis and her handlers are yet to issue a statement about the allegations.
