June 19 2014 a holiday in Laguna?

The nation will be marking the 153rd birth anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal this June 19, Thursday.

In line with this, President Benigno Aquino III has declared June 19 a special non-working holiday throughout Laguna, Rizal’s hometown.

President Aquino made the announcement through Proclamation 798. Read the full text of Proclamation 798 in this link.

Jose Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines.
Jose Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines.

The only time that June 19 was declared a special non-working holiday nationwide was in 2011, when Rizal’s 150th birth anniversary was commemorated (the proclamation is actually for June 20 since June 19 was a Sunday).

As noted in a previous blog post, there were efforts in recent years, particularly during the 15th Congress (2010 to 2013) to move the country’s commemoration of Rizal Day from December 30, the date of his martyrdom, to June 19.

After all, we are marking Bonifacio Day not on the date of Andres Bonifacio’s death but on the date of his birth. The same goes for other heroes like Emilio Aguinaldo and former President Sergio Osmena.

However, the legislative proposals to have Rizal Day moved to June 19 never really took off despite having the backing of then-National Historical Commission Chair Ambeth Ocampo.

  1. As a Filipino, I am truly glad that our President, Benigno Aquino III, declared June 19 as a holiday in Laguna for it reminds us the dedication, sacrifices and love of Jose Rizal to our country.
Also, this would serve as an eye-opener to each and everyone of us to look back what happened in the past, so that we will be able to appreciate what we have in the present.

  2. For me, it’s more convenient to move the date from the anniversary of Rizal’s execution to that of his birth because it is a more positive celebration than we celebrate the anniversary of Rizal’s death. But at least the President gives respect and attention to celebrate June 19 as holiday in Laguna.

  4. A man who use pen to fight not the sword; a biggest inspiration for every generation and someone who strive everyone to love his country; Dr. Jose Rizal is definitely deserving to have his birth as an Holiday, proclaiming his birth in his hometown signifies respect and courtesy to him. As the proclamation 798 given the people in Laguna, full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies in keeping with his ideals and teachings, with this, we could appreciate more of what he did for the sake of his countrymen. He’s indeed a fearless, compassionate, benign and well educated. He is right up there with the other great men of history who, through hardship and self-sacrifice, made a significant difference for their people.

  5. As a legitimate Filipino, the date is not important to celebrate whether on his birthday or the day of his death, we must also commemorate of what he did to the Philippines as our national hero. Rizal his a legend for for because we are not hugging the independence without him and other heroes as well. In the micro level of Rizal we think that he is not capable of being our national hero but in the macro level he did so well and become martyr and fought using only his pen. I can say that Nora Aunor is deserved as our National Artist, don’t look on the micro instead look for the macro level. Nora was a Filipino artist that we would proud of that she did so well and leave us a legend. I can say that you are not Filipino if you did not know Nora Aunor in our time. to conclude we must be proud of what we have and leave a legend to each everyone so that you will become also a hero for them.

  7. As a Filipino, I am truly proud of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal and we should commemorate of what he did in the Philippines. It’s a good idea that President Benigno Aquino III has declared June 19 a special non-working holiday but it is not important whether in his birthday or in the day of his death because we should respect him. He sacrifice himself for the freedom of his countrymen. He used his pen to fight for our country and he is an inspiration to all the Filipinos.

  10. For me, as a Filipino I am glad to read this article, because as we all know that we need to give respect to our heroes who sacrifice their lives for our country. Like Dr. Jose Rizal we should commemorate on his birth or even on his death. For us, to always remember what he did for our country.

  11. I never like President Benigno Aquino III as a leader in the Philippines but what he did now makes me like him a bit. I always believe that it’s better to commemorate someone on his birth than on his death. For me,birth means hope while death means an end. No matter how many years have passed since Rizal’s death, we should always remember him with love just like how he died for the love of our country. The past had always have to do with the present.Their are things that we must always be thankful for, without Rizal’s existence in the past,we could have an omnimous sun that will never shine upon us.

  12. This article is about moving the Rizal’s Day Celebration on june 19, which is his date of birth. In my opinion , I don’t think it’s relevant because people are already accustom to celebrate it on dec 30 and moving it won’t change a thing. Rizal will be always be remember for all the sacrifice he made and for being our national hero. The Congress should just focus on things that will help to improve the economy like poverty, human trafficking and more, instead of moving a celebration’s date .

  13. Our fellow President Benigno Aquino III, still giving the importance of remembering our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Behind on his busy schedule, he still spent a little time just to celebrate Rizal’s birthday. As Filipino, we always need to show respect, just like our president’s did, in terms of commemorate this special event. For us to realize all the sacrifices of our national hero for out country, we should honor him.

Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword….wait there’s even more Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin
