US Embassy in Manila closed on September 1 2014

The Embassy of the United States of America (USA) in Manila will be closed for business this coming September 1, Monday. This is in observance of the Labor Day holiday in the US on the said day.

“The Embassy of the United States in Manila and its affiliated offices will be closed to the public on Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day, an American holiday,” a statement posted on the embassy’s official Facebook page said.

“The Embassy and its affiliated offices will resume their regular services on Tuesday, September 2,” the advisory continued. 

According to the US Department of Labor, the holiday is celebrated every first Monday of September, and that it’s been a national observance since 1894.

“It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country,” the department noted.

The next nationwide holiday in US will be on October 13, which is designated as Christopher Columbus Day.

For its part, the Philippine embassy in Washington will likewise be closed on September 1. Read their announcement in this link.
