Based on their comments, netizens were generally amused with this move by PAGASA.

The name “Kanor” has been somewhat of a legend among Filipino Internet users in recent years.

He is a dark old man, perhaps in his 50s, who gained infamy after videos of his sexual encounters with a teenage girl supposedly named Jill Rose Mendoza became widely circulated online.

His real identity has never been clearly established although some speculated that he is a cop.

More recently, some websites claimed that he is already dead. Nevertheless, some net users suggested that a movie should be done to … honor him. 😛

With all this back story in mind, it is not surprising that PAGASA decided to remove “Kanor” from the list of typhoons.

After all, one wonders how the public will react then weather forecasters say something like “Babala: Paparating na po ang bagyong si Kanor mamayang gabiiii!” Ergo, the public may not take such a warning seriously.
