Dulaang UP presents “Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini”

As the nation commemorates this year the 150th birth anniversary of hero and revolutionary Apolinario Mabini, Dulaang UP will be doing a play that chronicles the final days of the man dubbed as the “Sublime Paralytic.”

In a statement, Dulaang UP explained that the play will be focusing on Mabini’s last days as an exile in Guam as well as the conditions that compelled him to return to his homeland.

Mabini was born in July 23, 1864 in Tanauan, Batangas (July 23 was declared as a special non-working holiday in that province). He died of cholera in 1903 at the age of 38.

A key part of the play will be the personal struggle that Mabini underwent after he was forced to swear allegiance to the United States and distance himself from the revolution he was a big part of.  The musical aims to make its audiences become better-acquainted with the values that Mabini believed in and stood for throughout his life.

The production team will be led by Dexter M. Santos (director), Floy Quintos (playwright), and Krina Cayabyab (music director). The three previously worked together for “Ang Nawalang Kapatid,” which ran early this year.

Leading the cast of characters are veteran stage actors Roeder Camañag, Leo Rialp, Jean Judith Javier, Banaue Miclat, Al Gaimatan, and Nazer Salcedo.
