February 19 2015 declared a nationwide holiday – Chinese New Year
The Chinese community in the Philippines and all over the world will celebrate the annual Spring Festival, more commonly known as the Chinese New Year, this February 19, Thursday.
The day is a special non-working holiday nationwide as mandated by President Benigno Aquino III’s Proclamation 831. It is the first nationwide special-non working holiday this 2015.
Proclamation 831, which lists all nationwide regular and special non-working holidays for this year, was released last July 2014.
In making the holiday proclamation, Aquino noted that the Spring Festival is “one of the most revered and festive events celebrated not only in China but also in the Philippines by both Chinese-Filipinos and ordinary Filipinos as well.”
He added that making February 19 a nationwide holiday is “a manifestation of our solidarity with our Chinese-Filipino brethren who have been part of our lives in many respects as a country and as a people.”
