ADVISORY | Scam emails against ChinaBank clients
Getting phishing emails is a universal experience for all netizens. All of us receive them everyday in the spam folders of our email accounts. Yesterday, I got this supposed email from China Bank PH, sent from a legitimate-sounding address.
Dear CBC Client,
Due to rising security risk on our servers, we have relocated our banking servers. This action requires all customers to immediately validate their information in other to continue using our services.

China Bank has long warned its clients about this scam. On their website, the bank reiterated that it neither send any security advisory nor solicit details regarding online banking through email. It added that it never requires its clients to supply user names and passwords apart from transacting on the genuine China Bank Online site.
“China Bank Online does NOT require both login and transaction password simultaneously – the log in password is inputted first and the transaction password is required only when conducting financial transactions. “Phishing Sites” ask you to input both login and transaction passwords on the same page,” the bank said in its advisory.
People should also be very careful in clicking external links embedded in the message. By hovering your mouse through the external link, you can easily determine if the URL is legitimate or if it’s a fake site. As mentioned above, the URL embedded in the email is http://cbc-on1ine.com/cbc/cbc.index.htm. The official website of China Bank is http://chinabank.ph/personal.aspx.
Clients who received “phishing emails” purportedly from ChinaBank are asked to kindly to the message to online@chinabank.ph or call the bank’s ATM Center – (632) – 885-5559.
