July 27 2015 declared a working holiday nationwide – 101st anniversary of Iglesia ni Cristo

UPDATED, JULY 26 2015

Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ), one of the largest religious denominations in the Philippines, will be marking its 101st foundation anniversary this July 27, Monday. The day is a special working holiday nationwide as stipulated in Republic Act 9645.

RA 9465 came into being during the term of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The law commends INC for its “exemplary feat of leading its members towards spiritual enlightenment and good citizenry.”

The day before July 27, the sect is scheduled to hold a grand ceremony at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan to mark the end of their centennial year celebration. Media reports frequently place INC’s membership at two million.

It must be noted that except for last year, when INC celebrated its centennial year, July 27 is really just a working holiday. It means that those who will report for work on this day will not receive any additional pay. As the Department of Labor and Employment put it, “work performed on a (working holiday) is considered work on ordinary working days.”

As mentioned above, INC currently has two million members, and because of the group’s extraordinary ability to enforce block voting, sitting politicians and future candidates fall over themselves to gain favor from the group. And with just ten months to go before the next general elections, expect politicos to greet INC for its upcoming 101st anniversary through huge tarpaulins, streamers, and paid ads in newspapers.

PS: President Benigno Aquino III is also scheduled to give his sixth and final State of the Nation Address on July 27. Because of this, classes in Quezon City had been suspended for ALL LEVELS for the said day.

    1. Duh. Kasi nga may pangyayari sa Pilipinas. Yan kasi eh. puro dak dak lang ng bunganga.
Isip kasi muna. Edi mag declare ka ng sarili mo! Ano pakialam ni Pnoy sayo?

    1. July 20, 2015? I think you need to check the date again. That’s outdated. That was last year and it was sunday

  1. ….working holiday……u could have just said(normal day ) I don’t see that much of a difference

Napakalaking abala!
