THANK YOU! | Two award-giving bodies recognize The Filipino Scribe

The Filipino Scribe (TFS) earned recognition from two different award-giving organizations in a span of ten weeks. The recent accomplishments are the latest addition to the news blog’s line-up of accolades since it was established in March 2011.

An article in the website titled “On Liam Madamba’s Suicide” was recognized at the 2015 Lasallian Scholarum Awards last September for being one of the most outstanding online feature stories on youth and education published from May 2014 to May 2015. The full list of categories and nominees can be accessed here.

The blog post discussed the circumstances behind the suicide of Liam Madamba, a high school student of British School – Manila, particularly the ways in which it can be prevented. The panel of judges include Clodualdo del Mundo and veteran photojournalist Jimmy Domingo.

Meanwhile, TFS was one of the eight finalists during the 1st Philippine Blogging Awards (#BloggysPH) for the news and events category. The awards’ night was held last Saturday at the SMX Aura Convention Center. The last time a competition was held to recognize Filipino bloggers from every category was four years ago.

The board of judges for #BloggysPH include Rappler.com founder Maria Ressa, blogging prioneer Janette Toral, and John Nery of Philippine Daily Inquirer.

To be honest, winning a blogging competition is extremely tough especially since there are so many good online writers around, so for TFS to be recognized every year for the past five years is already remarkable. Also, take note that each competition has different set of judges with different perspectives on what an excellent blog looks like.

Since I didn’t have the opportunity to give a victory speech on both occasions, let me use this opportunity to do so:

First of all, I’d like to thank Lord Jesus Christ not just for all these recognitions but more importantly, for blessing me with the talent to express my thoughts in writing. Without Him, nothing. Secondly, I want to thank my Mom and the rest of my family for being very supportive in everything I do. I fervently hope that I continue giving them proud moments in the years ahead.

I also like to thank my friends who’ve been there since I was just starting with TFS. Without a doubt, with them, I found myself my cheerleaders (LOL!). Lastly, I want to express my appreciation to all readers of TFS, including my friends, work colleagues, students, and well, everyone else! You never fail provide me a reason to continue writing.

Wishing for more victorious moments in the months and years ahead!

  1. If I am one of the judges, kahit finalist hindi makakasama ang blog mo, seriously. Wala lang talaga ibang options, you excelled because you are the best among others but in the category, all of you did not even reached the minimum standards of a good blog.
