RECAP: Closing statements during the second Philippine presidential debate
As noted in an earlier post, the second presidential debate was supposed to run from 5:00 to 8:00 PM but the program ended up being delayed by an hour and a half because of Vice President Jejomar Binay’s insistence on having notes and documents with him at the podium.
The program lasted until past 9:00 PM and below are snippets of the four candidates’ closing remarks:
Binay: “Performance, not promises. Gawa, hindi dada. Kapag ako naging pangulo, dala ko ang aking karanasan sa pamahalaan at yung kakayahan ko sa pamumuno.
When I began my term, Makati is nearly bankrupt. During my term, I was able to deliver quality basic services to the people.”

Duterte: “Corruption, criminality, and drug pushing is a big problem now. Those in the government are tolerating it. No progress can happen in the country unless we get rid of those. I will do it within three to six months. We have to do it for our children. I will not only provide platforms, but leadership!”
Poe: Just like what she did in the first debate, Poe began her closing statement by mentioning projects specific for the province hosting the debate. She said she will provide funds for the completion of a circumferential road in Cebu as well as the construction of the proposed Mactan bridge.
“I support more infrastructure projects. I want more assistance to farmers. Maraming kailangang gawin para sa buong bansa: 25 million ang mahihirap, 15 M ang nagugutom, maraming P330 lang ang kita sa isang araw.”
I have three promises for you: My family will not be involved in any govt transactions, the anti-corruption drive will go on, and I will appoint Colonel Ariel Querubin as the crime czar.”
Roxas: He says Filipinos are decent people and that the Aquino administration should be credited for “Itutuloy ko ang Daang Matuwid.”
