MASSIVE LEAK | Filipino voters’ private info now posted on WeHaveYourData.com
A website has been created which allows Internet users anywhere in the world to access the personal information of as much as 70 million registered Filipino voters. The website, WeHaveYourData.com, has been created by the hackers from LulzSec Pilipinas, which has claimed responsibility for the attack on the website of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) early this month.
“The database contains a lot of sensitive information, including fingerprint data and passport information. So, we thought that it would be fun to make a search engine over that data,” the hackers wrote. The group also indirectly urged the government to improve the security of its cyber infrastructures. ”
It’s one thing to hear news about a huge data leak and another to is see your data in a public website. Maybe, at least now, government will start thinking about security of citizens’ personal data,” they added.
If you want to know someone’s birth date, registration date, home address, and even passport number, all you have to do is to type the person’s given name and surname in the search bar of WeHaveYourData.com.
According to the web directory WhoIs.net, the domain for WeHaveYourData.com was registered last April 8, 2016 through GoDaddy.com. The registration is good for one year.
Trend Micro, a United States-based website security firm, previously warned that the attack on COMELEC’s website may be the worst data breach in history since it puts at risk the personally identifiable information (PII) of 55 million Filipino voters. It eclipses the attack on the database of US Office of Personnel Management last year which exposed the that leaked PII, including fingerprints and Social Security numbers, of 20 million American citizens.
