President Aquino makes sudden visit to Iglesia ni Cristo Central Office

President Benigno Aquino III made a surprise visit to the Central Office of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) in Quezon City early Monday morning. The visit is not on the President’s itinerary for the day, according to Secretary Herminio Coloma of the Presidential Communications Operations Office as reported by DZMM reporter Dennis Datu.

His visit comes exactly a week before the May 9 elections and with the administration of the influential sect expected to announce their preferred candidates within the week, presumably before their worship service on Thursday.

Aquino received INC’s endorsement in 2010 together with his then running-mate Mar Roxas, who is now running to succeed him. INC Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo met all five presidential candidates in the past two weeks but according to some reports, the group is now only choosing between Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Grace Poe. Meanwhile, it is said to have decided to back Senator Bongbong Marcos for Vice President.
