Will June 30 2016 be declared a holiday?

As mandated by the 1987 Constitution, President-elect Rodrigo Duterte as well as Vice President-elect Leni Robredo will take their respective oath of office this coming June 30, Thursday.

The Inauguration Day is likely to be declared a special non-working holiday by outgoing President Benigno Aquino III although he is yet to issue a proclamation to that effect. This post will be updated if and when Aquino issues such a declaration.

Six years ago, then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo issued Proclamation 2085 which designated June 30, 2010 as a special non-working holiday. “It is fitting and proper that all citizens of our country be given full opportunity to witness and welcome this historic event in the life of the nation,” Arroyo noted in her proclamation.
