July 27 2016 declared a working holiday nationwide – 102nd anniversary of Iglesia ni Cristo
Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ), the largest indigenous religious denomination in the Philippines, will be marking its 102nd foundation anniversary this July 27, Wednesday. The day is a special working holiday nationwide as stipulated in Republic Act 9645.
RA 9465 was passed in 2009 during the term of then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The law commends INC for its “exemplary feat of leading its members towards spiritual enlightenment and good citizenry.” Media organizations frequently estimate INC’s membership at over two million.
Those who will report for work on this day will not receive any additional compensation. As the Department of Labor and Employment put it, “work performed on a (working holiday) is considered work on ordinary working days.”
The group will most likely organize more evangelical and outreach missions (dubbed as “Lingap sa Mamamayan”) around the country in the coming weeks. A complete list of activities in connection to the coming anniversary will be posted here as soon as it is released.
