National Science Club Month 2016 theme – “AGRINNOVATE”

Education institutions of all levels everywhere nationwide will be celebrating the annual National Science Club Month (NSCM) this September. The theme for NSCM 2016 is “AGRINNOVATE: Revolutionizing Agricultural Outlook for Sustainable Growth.”

In its official Facebook page, the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC) explained that the focus on education aims to make students “realize the importance of the sector that brings food on our tables.” PSYSC is one of the organizations that plans the activities related to the annual celebration of science month.

According to the organization, this year’s theme also seeks to rekindle the Filipino youth’s interest in agriculture and to raise awareness on its current situation in the country through its four major annual events:

1) National Science Clubs Summit (SUMMIT)

2) PSYSC Science Olympiad (PSO)

3) Math, Science, and Kapaligiran (MathSciKa) workshops

4) I Teach Science Seminar (ITSS)

This year’s theme is all the more relevant given the campaign pledge of President Rodrigo Duterte to pour more resources in the agriculture sector, especially in Mindanao.

September has been designated as “Science Month”  as mandated by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Proclamation 264, which she signed in 2002. Read the full text of Proclamation 264 (2002) in this link.

In her pronouncement, Arroyo pointed out that the science clubbing movement and network is “a significant educational tool to encourage and inspire the youth and students to pursue careers in science and technology.”

Interested parties are encouraged to get in touch with PSYSC at 332-8151 or at nscm@psysc.org for questions regarding NSCM activities.
