Navotas City will be marking its 111th foundation anniversary this January 16, Monday.

That day has been declared a special non-working by President Rodrigo Duterte through Proclamation 120. The proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea in behalf of Duterte last December. Click here to read the full text of Proclamation 120. Dubbed as the “Fishing Capital of the Philippines,” Navotas was once part of Malabon, which borders its east side. Navotas became an independent municipality through Act No. 1442 which was enacted by the Philippine Commission in January 16, 1906 (hence the celebration).

By 1975, Navotas together with twelve other jurisdictions became part of the newly-created Metropolitan Manila or National Capital Region. It achieved cityhood following a successful plebiscite in 2007.
