THANK YOU! | Celebrating six years of FilipinoScribe.com and my latest award!

Today marks the sixth year anniversary of The Filipino Scribe (www.FilipinoScribe.com). Since it was created in March 31 2011, the news and commentary blog has already received nearly 8.6 million page views.

In an era where fake news sites have become very prevalent no thanks to social media, TFS has stood out from the rest through the numerous awards and recognitions it earned from various organizations through the years.

I admit that it is frustrating for me that I’m no longer able to update this site as much as I would love to due to my numerous professional commitments, but what I can promise is that this blog is here to stay. So, thank you very much to all readers who still support TFS through it all!

Anyway, let me use this opportunity to share another life milestone. I won 2nd place in the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) essay writing contest – teachers’ category sponsored by the Quezon City Local Government and Department of Education-Quezon City.

Participants were asked to write about what for them is the most gender sensitive movie among the nine entries to the 2016 MMFF. I wrote about Jun Robles Lana’s “Die Beautiful” and its main protagonist Trisha Echevarria.

Specifically, I commended how the movie tackled issues affecting the LGBT community in general and transgenders in particular like rejection from the family, gay adoption, and the freedom to express their sexual identity.

I can say that my winning essay about “Die Beautiful” is my most personal write-up to date. Although it wasn’t really about me, I touched on issues that are very close to my heart. I will post it in this blog very soon.

Also, I couldn’t be happier to achieve this less than eight months since I was appointed to this job. What a great way to end the school year! I can’t wait to do more things in the name of Batasan Hills National High School and DepEd Quezon City.

The awarding ceremony was held last March 27 at the Quezon City Hall as part of the city’s International Women’s Month culminating activity. The event was attended by various personalities led by Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, MMFF Executive Director Rochelle Macapili-Ona, DepEd QC Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Quesada, and assistant superintendent Dr. Cecile Carandang.
