San Mig Coffee routs Air21, advances to finals vs Talk ‘N Text

The San Mig Coffee Mixers booked a return trip to the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals by trouncing Air 21 Express, 99-83, in Game 5 of their semifinals series Wednesday night.

Two-time PBA most valuable player James Yap led his team with 15 points and five rebounds. The Mixers will face the Talk N’ Text Tropang Texters in the championship round that will begin this May 9.

Led by multi-titled head coach Tim Cone, the Mixers are gunning for their third straight title, having won the 2013 Governor’s Cup and the 2014 Philippine Cup.

The Tropang Texters, for their part, remains undefeated after playing 13 games in the current tournament.

This will be the Mixers’ fifth finals appearance under Cone, who previously coached the Alaska Aces from 1989 to 2011.

The league-leading Tropang Texters and the Mixers, then carrying the name B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados, figured in an epic seven-game Commissioner’s Cup finals series two years ago. The final game, which the Llamados won en route to the championship, went into overtime.

According to Interaksyon.com, this is the best finish of Air21 Express since joining the league as ShoPinas.com Clickers three years ago.
