Nutrition Month Philippines 2014

Nutrition Month Philippines 2014

Elementary and secondary schools all over the country will once more mark the annual Nutrition Month or “Buwan ng Nutrisyon” this coming July.

As mandated by the National Nutrition Council (NNC), the theme for this year’s celebration is “Kalamidad paghandaan: Gutom at malnutrisyon agapan!”

The theme aims to underscore the necessity of hunger and malnutrition prevention among Filipinos to minimize the impact of calamities and disasters.

In a statement, the agency is urging  local government units through the local nutrition committees “to plan for activities related to nutrition in emergency preparedness as these committees  are also the local nutrition clusters.”

The NNC has outlined the following goals  in relation to this year’s nutrition month celebration:

The National Nutrition Council has announced the theme for the 2014 Nutrition Month: “Kalamidad paghandaan: Gutom at malnutrisyon agapan!”

1) promote interventions to address nutritional needs in emergencies and disasters including preparedness, response and recovery;

2) mobilize responders particularly the local nutrition clusters and stakeholders to address gaps in nutrition in emergencies response from national to barangay levels; and

3) increase awareness among families and individuals on coping and resiliency strategies to prevent malnutrition and worsening of nutritional status in times of emergencies and disasters.

UPDATE, July 1: The Department of Education has already issued a formal memorandum order about the nutrition month meant for all elementary and high schools in the country. Please check the document below:

Personal: I gave a presentation titled “Social Marketing of Nutrition Using Information and Communication Technology” at the National Nutrition Council (Official) last June 6. The agency’s high interest in exploring the social media is really commendable. I spent about 15 minutes answering queries from NNC officials.

  1. nakakatulong ang nutrition month sa bawat tao para sa kanilang pangaraw-araw na kinakain.:-)

  2. As we all know that the month of July is Nutrition Month. It is designed to raise each person’s awareness of the food value of what they eat. The theme for this year nutrition month is about the preparation for calamities. Many kids nowadays are malnourished, they don’t eat proper food because they experience poverty. The human body needs vitamins and minerals to function well.
