#PrayForPaulGeorge: Indiana Pacers star suffers his worst career injury

Paul George of Indiana Pacers star suffered his worst career injury during a tune-up game for Team USA, which will be competing later this month in the FIBA World Cup in Spain.

The 24-year old George injured his right leg after challenging an offensive play by James Harden during the American squad’s practice game in Las Vegas, Nevada during the early minutes of fourth quarter.

Indiana Pacers’s official Facebook page published this statement from team president Larry Bird:

“We are aware of the injury sustained by Paul George in Friday night’s Team USA game in Las Vegas and we are obviously greatly concerned. At this time our thoughts and prayers are with Paul. We are still gathering details and will have an updated statement Saturday.”

George began his NBA career four years ago when he was selected by the Pacers as their 10th overall pick during the 2010 Draft. A member of the all-star squad for 2013 and 2014, George averaged 21.7 points during the past season, where the Pacers reached the Eastern Conference Finals for the second consecutive year.

It can be recalled that Paul George and Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers was supposed to visit Manila early this month to be part of an exhibition game between Gilas Pilipinas and a team of selected NBA players.

As it is, Gorge and Griffin backed out at the last minute while the much-ballyhooed all-star game did not push through after NBA officials refused to give the participating players the permission to play

 Postscript: This unfortunate event explains why NBA is very strict in letting their players take part in games not sanctioned by the league during the off-season. The prohibition, as we discussed in a previous post, is intended to prevent league players from suffering injuries.
