December 11 2014 declared a holiday in Pampanga

The province of Pampanga will be marking its 443rd foundation anniversary, known locally as the annual Aldo ning Kapampangan, this December 11.

The day, which this year falls on a Thursday, is a special non-working holiday in Pampanga by virtue of Proclamation 2226, which then-President Ferdinand Marcos signed in July 1982. The full text of Proclamation 2226 can be read here.

It is not yet clear if Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda will issue a declaration moving this year’s holiday to December 12 to pave the way for a three-day weekend. She received harsh criticism from Pampanga’s business sector in 2011 when she made that move.

In his declaration, President Marcos pointed out that the Spanish colonizers inaugurated Pampanga as the first province of Luzon on or about December 11, 1571.

Prior to this reorganization, the former Kingdom of Pampanga included portions of the following modern-day provinces: Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac, and Zambales.
