FIRST LOOK: Rape convict creates a wood-burned portrait of Pope Francis
Pope Francis will be receiving a portrait of him made by man who’s currently serving a life sentence at the New Bilibid Prison.
Made through wood-burning, the portrait was made by Ariel Cabiluna, an inmate residing at the maximum security compound of the National Bilibid Prison.
The artwork was presented to members of the media by Rev. Fr. Anton Pascual, president of the Church-run Radyo Veritas, during a press conference Monday afternoon.
According to Pascual, the portrait will serve as a remembrance to Pope Francis from inmates like Cabinula who are serving life sentences.
A native of Talisay, Cebu, Cabinula was found guilty of the crime by the Regional Trial Court of Cebu City in 1996. The lower court’s decision was affirmed by the Supreme Court in 2002.
It is not yet clear as of this time how and where the artwork will be given to Pope Francis.
