Teen star and showbiz royalty Julia Barretto is turning 18 today, March 10. Her grand debut tonight is expected to be star-studded. The entire event will be aired on ABS-CBN as a TV special titled “Just Julia!” this coming March 28, Sunday,
Speaking to members of the entertainment press and selected bloggers last Wednesday, Julia said she and her mom, actress-politician Marjorie Barretto, had been preparing for the debut since April of last year. “Mas nakakakaba po kasi ‘pag nagmamadali ka sa preparation,” she shared.
For Julia, preparing for the actual event itself is not the only thing that preoccupies her in the days leading to her debut. She also have to deal with questions about her relatives’ presence during her special day.
During the press con, Julia revealed that her father, actor Dennis Padilla, will be her first dance during the debut night. Dennis and Marjorie had been estranged since 2007. Meanwhile, fellow teen star Inigo Pascual will be her last dance.
She also added that her aunts Claudine and Gretchen as well as their children are also invited during the event.
However, her cousin Dominique Cojuangco, Gretchen’s daughter, has said through a Twitter post that she can’t attend Julia’s debut because of school commitments. “We’ve spoken and she understands! I’m chasing my dreams as she has chased hers,” Dominique wrote.
Julia explained that she did not ask her parents for a particular gift for her birthday. “My dad’s presence during the event is already a big gift,” Julia said, adding that her mom Marjorie has already done more than enough for her throughout her life.
She however emphasized that seeing her parents get back together is not something she’s wishing. “My dad’s happy with his new partner and my mom is already happy with us. Wherever they are happy, I’m also happy,” she said.
Julia meanwhile refused to answer questions about the supposed P5 million spent for the debut. “Nakakahiya naman po!” she said with a laugh.
She added that intrigues no longer bother her. “I’m used to controversies. Kinalakhan ko na yan,” she said. She first appeared at a prime time TV series in 2007 with Walang Kapalit, where she played the younger version of her aunt Claudine’s character.
Now that she’s already 18, will Julia be taking on more daring roles in the near future? The teen actress refused to answer definitively. “I’ll think about the opportunities as they arrive!” she said.
