Leakage of results spoil Asia’s Got Talent finale

Leakage of results spoil Asia’s Got Talent finale

Filipinos all over the world no doubt rejoiced the victory of two Pinoy acts, the shadow dance group El Gamma Penumbra (declared the champion) and singer Gerphil Geraldine Flores (who placed third), in the just-concluded first season of Asia’s Got Talent.

However, not everyone was cheering when the results of the competition was disseminated on social media an hour before the final episode aired over AXN Philippines. News organizations like Rappler and Interaksyon as well as blog sites including The Dailypedia, AngSaWariKoand The Filipino Scribe were all guilty of this.

The producers of the talent show went as far as contacting the aforementioned sites to send this message:

“Could you please take down your post? Episode 10 is airing on AXN at 8pm and we don’t want to spoil the experience for viewers. Thank you.”

The leakage of competition results spoiled the finale of “Asia’s Got Talent” for some viewers

In response to this request, The Filipino Scribe reiterated that the news is already all over social media (our story was solely based on the information being shared online) and has in fact been written about in other blogs. In other words, this site site cannot be behind its competitors.

In this case, TFS and many others merely corralled the information already available online.  AXN should instead blame the leakage to members of the media, entertainment bloggers, and the people who were at the venue during the announcement night.

Obviously, this is not the first time that a talent show had this problem. Last December, Tony Award-winning Broadway superstar and The Voice of the Philippines coach Lea Salonga used her Twitter account to express her anger toward an audience member who kept leaking the results of the competition online.

I am angry. Very, very, very angry. I am proposing that we no longer have audiences invited from outside ABS-CBN because of one a******,” she wrote.
