July 2 is momentous in Pasig City history because it was on this date back in 1573 that the territory was first declared as a Visitacion Parish. The city’s official website claims that this is the first Marian parish in the country and perhaps even in the entire Asia.

Even if Pasig City is now regarded as one of the country’s premiere commercial center because of the Ortigas business district, it only became a city in 1994 through Republic Act 7829.
