TUWAD NA DAAN: ‘Playgirls’ turn up the heat during Liberal Party event in Laguna

An event meant to celebrate the 58th birthday of Rep. Benjie Agarao of Laguna last September 30 is now the subject of intense criticism from netizens. Videos and photos taken during the event show scantily-clad women dancing provocatively in front of still-unidentified men. The dancers are part of the all-female group ‘Playgirls.’

According to the news blog The Manila Journo, the controversial dance performance happened immediately following a mass oath-taking ceremony of 80 new members of the ruling Liberal Party (LP) in the area. The event was attended by LP standard-bearer Mar Roxas, Metro Manila Development Authority chair Francis Tolentino, and Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez.

The dance performers were reportedly a surprise gift for Agarao from Tolentino, who recently declared his intention to run for senator in next year’s elections under LP. The three girls from ‘Playgirls’ danced to the tune of the popular song “Twerk it Miley.”

For his part, Tolentino appealed to his critics to listen to his side first before making judgments. “I was just a guest at the birthday party. I did not bring any dancers and singers. The emcee probably got misinformed,” he said through his official Facebook page.

Roxas, meanwhile, insisted that he did not see the actual performance and that he is ordering his party to investigate the circumstances behind the scandalous act. “Mariin kong ipinagbabawal sa anumang aspekto ng ating kampanya ang ganitong uri ng pagsasamantala sa kababaihan,” the former interior secretary added.
