CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Kidnapping of 3-year-old girl in Angeles, Pampanga

A three-year-old girl in Angeles, Pampanga was kidnapped by still-unidentified individuals last November 12, Thursday. A CCTV footage showing how the incident happened was aired on GMA Network’s 24 Oras news program yesterday night.

In the video, the victim can be seen with a woman identified as her grandmother walking toward a day care center adjacent to where they live. The two noticeably had to stop walking across the street for a few seconds since a white van passed in front of them.

Several hours later, the grandma fetched the child from the day care center and just when the pair is already about to enter their property, the same van appeared again, this time from the opposite direction. In a matter of seconds, a man emerged from the van and forcibly took the little girl from her grandma and sped away.

The old woman tried her best to run after the kidnappers but to no avail. A male neighbor also appeared on the scene but he was helpless as well.

GMA News’ Emil Sumangil has reported that the child has since been returned to her family after they gave the kidnappers the ransom money they demanded. According to those living in the community, the family has since left their residence and moved to an undisclosed location out of fear for their safety.

The incident has been the subject of many Facebook posts during the past week. According to several users, the incident happened in Barangay Pandan in Angeles, Pampanga. The victim’s father is said to be working in a government-run facility in the province.

WHAT CAN BE DONE TO AVOID BEING KIDNAPPED?
The Movement for the Restoration of Peace and Order, an anti-crime group led by Teresita Ang-See, suggests the following steps to avoid being victimized by kidnap-for-ransom groups:
1) Avoid wearing expensive jewelry or displaying expensive gadgets. Children often play with their iPads, unable to see the goings-on around them.
2) If threatened, attract attention. Criminals prefer to get away rather than attract attention.

3) Ask assistance from security personnel if one sees something suspicious.

4) Teach children not to talk to strangers or to go with them under any circumstances.
