2016 Graduation Theme: “Kabataang Mula sa K to 12, Tagapagdala ng Kaunlaran sa Bansang Pilipinas”
With the current academic school year entering its tenth and final month, the Department of Education (DepEd) has released the official theme to be used for the 2016 nursery, kindergarten, elementary, and high school graduation ceremonies nationwide. It is “Kabataang Mula sa K to 12, Tagapagdala ng Kaunlaran sa Bansang Pilipinas.”
In a department order dated February 15, Education Secretary Armin Luistro explained that the theme “focuses on the K to 12 Basic Education Program as a transformative vehicle for local and national development.”
“Through the provision of quality education, the K to 12 Basic Education Program develops and harnesses the skills and competencies of the Filipino youth that will lead to human and community development,” he added.
The order mandates that graduation ceremonies should be held on or before April 1, 2016. Meanwhile, school divisions or regions whose school years had been extended because of class suspensions will have to be guided by their approved revised school calendar.
Just like in previous years, the secretary underscored that the ceremonies must be observed with austerity and simplicity. “While these rites mark a milestone in the life of the learners, these should be conducted without excessive spending, extravagant attire, or extraordinary venue,” Luistro said.
In relation to that, warned school administrators and teachers against including non-academic projects such as attendance to field trips, film showing, junior-senior promenade and other school events as requirements for graduation or completion.
The secretary also appealed to national and local candidates for the 2016 elections not to use the graduation rites for campaigning. “The ceremonies should be conducted in an appropriate solemn ceremony befitting the graduating pupils and students and their parents,” he explained.
