#WalangPasok – April 28 2017 declared holiday in Metro Manila due to ASEAN Summit
Malacanang has declared April 28, Friday, a holiday throughout Metro Manila in preparation for the different ativities to be held regarding the 2017 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit that the country is hosting.
The international organization is celebrating its 50th foundation anniversary this year. Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei has confirmed their attendance for this event.
According to Memorandum Circular #18, which Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed in behalf of President Rodrigo Duterte, classes at all levels as well as work in government and private offices are suspended for that day.
This announcement gives those working and studying in Metro Manila a rare four-day weekend because Labor Day (May 1) this year falls on a Monday.
Meanwhile, Malacanang has left it to the local government units of Makati, Manila, and Pasay if they will also suspend the classes and work in private offices for April 27, Thursday. So far, only work in government offices are suspended for that day.
