#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for April 27 2017

Classes in several colleges and universities in the cities of Manila, Makati, and Pasay will be suspended this April 27, Thursday, to give way for the preparations that the national government and concerned local government units will put in place in connection to the country’s hosting of the 30th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.

It can be recalled that President Rodrigo Duterte’s declared last week through Memorandum Circular #18 that work in government offices in the said cities are suspended for April 27. He likewise declared April 28 as a special non-working holiday through Proclamation #197.

As of 4PM  of April 26, the following  have announced class suspensions for April 27:

Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Sta. Mesa
University of the Philippines-Manila
Tiong Se Academy

On the other hand, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has reiterated in a labor advisory that April 27 and 28 are “special days” wherein employees who report for work should get plus 30% of their hourly rate for every hour of service rendered.  Those will stay at home are not entitled to get anything given the “no work, no pay” rule being observed during special non-working holidays.
