LONG WEEKEND | August 21 2017 Philippine holiday – Ninoy Aquino day

The country will commemorate the 34th death anniversary of democracy icon and former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. this August 21.

Ninoy Aquino Day is a national non-working holiday nationwide as stipulated in Republic Act (RA) 9256, which then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed in 2004. Access RA 9256 in this link. Because it falls on a Monday this year, the holiday will give Filipinos a three-day weekend.

President Rodrigo Duterte referenced RA 9256 in Proclamation 50, which listed the official list of regular and special non-working holidays nationwide for 2017.

The next holiday will be the National Heroes Day, which will be observed on August 28. Since that also falls on a Monday, it will pave the way for another three-day weekend for most Filipinos.
