#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for August 22 2017

(UPDATED, 7:15 AM)

Tropical storm Isang (international name ‘Hato’) continues to batter extreme northern Luzon, particularly Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands, late Monday night.

In its 11:00 PM severe weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA reported that the center of “Isang” was last spotted at 80 km East of Basco, Batanes (20.4°N, 122.7°E). It carries maximum sustained winds of up to 80 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 97 kph.

“Isang” is moving westward at 17 KPH and is expected to be in the vicinity of Batanes in the early hours of August 22. It is projected to move out of the Philippine area of responsibility on its way to southwest China by Tuesday night.

“The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to occasionally heavy rains within the 400 km diameter of the Tropical Storm,” the weather bureau said in the report, adding that “Isang” will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring light up to heavy rains over the Cordillera region and the western section of Luzon.

Based on Executive Order #66 signed  by then-President Benigno Aquino III, classes from preschool up to high school in areas under signal #2 are automatically suspended. Meanwhile, preschool students have no classes in areas under signal #1.

No other local government unit has announced class suspensions in their respective constituencies so far. The Filipino Scribe will be update this post if and when new information becomes available.
