Dear engineering students: balancing studies and pleasure is possible!

Studying in an engineering university that’s regarded as one of the country’s best choices for an education of that field is a privilege and an honor to behold. However, while job offers after graduation are sure to pour in, its difficulty in terms of academic workload can definitely take a toll on anyone.

One of the most common misconceptions about being enrolled in an engineering program is that since it requires long and arduous study periods, students will no longer be able to enjoy any leisure time. While engineering subjects are definitely tough nuts to crack, that doesn’t mean that your social life should suffer because of studies. In fact,  there are ways to perfectly balance studies and relaxation.

If you’re looking for some inspiration to study (and relax to your heart’s content) this semester, then you’re in luck! Here are some of the best ways to balance your study load and your weekend plans:

  1. Dedicate time to studying

This is one of the most common steps for anyone to try when it comes to studying. Sure, engineering universities are known for their difficulty when it comes to academic requirements, but all you’ll really need is some serious studying.

For this, just set sometime during the day for pure studying. A study time for about 2-3 hours should be enough for you to manage. That way, you’ll be able to absorb as much knowledge as you can, and still, have time to lay your head down once you’re done.

  1. Never forget to take breaks

When it comes to studying in general, one must always know their physical and mental limits. That being said, never, EVER forget to take breaks when you need it.

Also, this doesn’t just apply to sitting down and studying as a break can be anything you make it to be. Whether it’s something as simple as putting your book down to get some shut-eye, or something physical like walking around for some fresh air, there’s definitely nothing to worry about.

3. Set your priorities on track

This step to ultimate school-life balance is one of the most important ones to consider. To better practice, this, make up a list of tasks to do, or things to study for the day, while also including specific times for each of them to be accomplished by. That way, you’ll be able to give yourself the time you deserve to enjoy any form of leisure activity.

  1. Avoid Multi-Tasking

While multitasking can definitely help you get things done in a quicker pace, try to avoid it as much as you can. After all, you’re still earning your degree and you need as much focus you need.

  1. Consider a Day-Off

While day-offs sound like a great thing to consider, it’s actually a great step to practice. A day-off can be anything you want it to be, depending on your circumstance. If you’ve studied enough, consider taking a day-off from it and just do whatever you want, and vice-versa. You’d be surprised on how rejuvenated you’ll feel after your own personal day-off.

The study does not always have to signify the end of all things fun. In fact, with the proper balance of these two worlds, you’ll be able to make time for anything while securing the best grades there is.
