BUWAN NG PAGBASA – National Reading Month 2017 official theme

Elementary and high schools nationwide will be celebrating the annual National Reading Month this November.

The celebration, which is listed in the Department of Education’s official calendar for school year 2017-2018, is customarily managed by a school’s English Department. November was officially designated as the National Reading Month by then-Education Secretary Armin Luistro through Memorandum #244 which he signed last 2011.

In relation to that, November 27 of each year has been declared as “Araw ng Pagbasa” (National Reading Day) through Republic Act 10556. This is in honor of the father of former President Benigno Aquino III, the late Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., whose birth date is November 27, 1932. Read the full text of RA 10556 here.

As of posting time, DepEd is yet to release a memorandum outlining its suggested activities for National Reading Month 2017 as well as the theme for this year (last year, they merely reused the theme “Nasa Pagbasa ang Pagasa“). This post will be updated if and when new information becomes available.
