Metro Manila mayors have unanimously agreed to suspend classes in all levels throughout National Capital Region for November 16 and 17, 2017 due to the country’s hosting of the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.

The announcement was made by the Metro Manila Development Authority Chair Danilo Lim at the conclusion of the 9th Metro Manila Council meeting held earlier today.

Apart from the leaders of the ten ASEAN member-states, high ranking leaders of Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, and even United States President Donald Trump are scheduled to attend the summit.

The announcement took many by surprise because in recent weeks, rumors have focused on November 13 to 15, 2017 being declared as special non-working days. It is not clear if President Rodrigo Duterte will still issue a separate announcement for that, which will effectively make most students have one week of no classes and two three-day weekends.
