#KeepGoing – Nadine Lustre’s 16-year-old brother commits suicide

The 16-year-old brother of popular actress Nadine Lustre has committed suicide according to multiple media reports. The Filipino Scribe will not publish the name of Nadine’s brother because he is a minor.

According to the tabloid Pang-Masa, he shot himself on the head inside his room late Monday night (October 10). Speaking to PSN’s Mer Layson, unnamed members of the Lustre family said that Nadine’s brother never mentioned any serious problem to them although they noticed that in the past week, he has become increasingly sullen and irritable. He also spent most of his time alone.

While refusing to divulge more details about the tragic incident, Nadine and her boyfriend/on-screen partner James Reid used the opportunity to promote the #KeepGoing social media campaign of advocacy group Project Semicolon through their Instagram accounts. The posts have been taken down as of Wednesday midnight, but the hashtag is still trending nationwide.

Project Semicolon is a United States-based organization dedicated to the prevention of suicide. The group uses the semicolon as an icon because it symbolyzes that the life of people going through depression should not end just because of it.

“A semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life,” the group explained to the Huffington Post. Hence, the #KeepGoing campaign.
