DFA finally opens passport appointment slots for January to March 2018

After over a month of delays, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has finally opened passport appointment slots for the months of January to March, 2018 through its website www.passport.gov.ph.

The long delay has prompted furious netizens to express their frustrations via social media. It can be recalled that by virtue of Republic Act 10928, passports issued from January 2018 onwards will already have a validity of ten years. Minors, on the other hand, will still be issued passports with five-year validity.

That announcement prompted some Filipinos to reschedule their existing DFA appointments in the hopes of being able to acquire a passport with a longer validity.

The DFA has announced last October that the price of the passports will remain at P950 for regular processing, which means delivery within fifteen days, and P1200 for express processing, which means delivery within seven days.

Earlier this year, DFA Assistant Secretary Frank Cimafranca of the Office of Consular Affairs reiterated that senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, pregnant women, and minors (seven years old and below) may just walk in without prior appointment with the DFA when renewing or applying for passports. He added that scheduling passport appointments is free of charge.
