Deped 2021 graduation theme: “Kalidad ng Edukasyon, Lalong Patatagin sa Gitna ng Pandemya”

With school year 2020-2021 now drawing to a close, the Department of Education (DepEd) has released the official theme to be used for the 2021 graduation ceremonies in public nursery, kindergarten, elementary, and high schools nationwide. It is “Kalidad ng Edukasyon, Lalong Patatagin sa Gitna ng Pandemya(“Strengthening Quality Education Amid COVID-19 Pandemic”),

In a statement released last May 25, DepEd explained that the theme seeks to “highlight the efforts of our learners, teachers, and personnel in championing education amidst the public health situation.” It must be remembered that all over the country, classes during this SY 2020-2021 has been conducted through the so-called blended learning approach because of the ongoing pandemic.

For the second straight year, these events must be held online to protect the health and welfare of learners, teachers, personnel, and parents. DepEd mandates that graduation and moving up ceremonies be held between July 12 to 16, 2021 in public schools. Private schools, for their part, shall be guided by their approved school calendars in conducting the activity.

“Schools and community learning centers (CLCs) are instead encouraged to prepare a short virtual program that will run in less than two hours to consider the amount of mobile data that will be consumed and the internet connectivity of involved learners,” DepEd explained in the statement. The agency also emphasized that schools must secure the consent of the parents and learners if the online event can be made publicly accessible, as stipulated by the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

DepEd likewise mentioned that schools can opt to reschedule the virtual ceremony to a later date or to forgo it altogether depending on the public health situation in their respective areas, in consultation with the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA).
