#WalangPasok – August 21 2021 is Ninoy Aquino Day

Filipinos will commemorate the 38th death anniversary of democracy icon and former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. this August 21, 2021.

Ninoy Aquino Day is a special non-working holiday nationwide as stipulated in Republic Act (RA) 9256, which then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed in 2004. Access RA 9256 in this link. The holiday this year falls on a Saturday.

President Rodrigo Duterte referenced RA 9256 in Proclamation 986, which listed the official list of regular and special non-working holidays nationwide for 2021.

This year’s commemoration is more poignant than usual given the sudden death of his son and namesake, the late former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III just last June. Ninoy’s death anniversary this 2021 can be a good opportunity to further remind the country of their family’s legacy of good governance and promoting democracy.
