September is just a little more than three weeks away, and that means education institutions throughout the Philippines will very soon be celebrating the annual National Science Club Month or NSCM.

According to the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC), the official theme for this year’s celebration is “RIPTIDE: Science Clubbing Steadfast Against Raging Currents.”

“Amid our current situation, challenges come in gigantic waves with raging strength, and so we must learn to be steadfast and to sail through it. With NSCM 2021, PSYSC aims to not just increase the appreciation for our waters but also raise awareness regarding the different issues surrounding it. Through a variety of events and activities, we will delve into the study of the waters that we as an archipelagic nation have known all our lives,” the group explained.

This year’s theme, PSYSC added, will give focus on hydrology and oceanography. “We will be going on a journey to explore and rediscover the wonders of our oceans and seas – for appreciation, for learning, for more discoveries!” PSYSC is one of the organizations that plans the activities related to the annual celebration of science month.

Because of the still-ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is almost certain that most science month activities will still be held virtually this year.
