(LAST UPDATE, 7:45 AM of September 8)
Severe tropical storm “Jolina” (international name “Conson”) is expected to affect parts of Luzon – particularly provinces in Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon regions as well as Metro Manila – throughout Wednesday, September 8. “Jolina” is the tenth tropical cyclone to enter the Philippine area of responsibility.
In its weather bulletin released 2AM of September 8, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that “Jolina” has maximum sustained winds of 100 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 125 km/h, and central pressure of 996 hPa.
“Jolina” is moving northwestward at 15 km per hour. It has gustiness of up to 180 km from the center. As of 1AM, it was last spotted in the vicinity of Buenavista, Marinduque. PAGASA projects that “Jolina” will move over Tayabas Bay and make landfall over eastern Batangas Wednesday morning. After that, the storm will cross the Batangas-Cavite area before emerging over Manila Bay tonight. This will be followed by another landfall in the vicinity of Bataan Peninsula.
PAGASA has raised public storm warning signals over particular areas – mostly in Region IV. With that, the rules for automatic class suspensions are in effect in accordance with Department of Education (DepEd) Order #14 series of 2021 as reported by The Filipino Scribe last July. DepEd clarified that the guidelines apply regardless of the learning delivery modality.
Local government units can also suspend classes in their respective areas as they deem appropriate. The Filipino Scribe will be updating this post when new information becomes available.
