#WalangPasok – May 3 2022 declared a holiday for Eid’l Fitr

Multiple media outlets are quoting Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea as saying that May 3, 2022, Tuesday, will be declared a regular working holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr.)

Muslim Filipinos began their annual observance of Ramadan last April 3, Saturday. Ramadan is the ninth and holiest month in the Islamic calendar and it is characterized as a period of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.

Eid’l Fitr, the last day of Ramadan, is a yearly regular holiday throughout the Philippines as stipulated in Republic Act (RA) 9177. This became law in 2002 during the term of then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

According to RA 9177, the National Commission for Muslim Filipinos or NCMF will have to make a recommendation to President Rodrigo Duterte regarding the final date for this year’s Eid’l Fitr based on their scheduled moonsighting activity.

PAY RULES FOR EID’L FITR 

According to pay rules set by the Department of Labor and Employment, employees covered by the holiday pay rule are entitled to receive 100% of their regular daily wage rate even if they do not report for work on regular holidays like Eid’l Fitr. This daily wage rate is the sum of a worker’s daily basic wage and cost of living allowance.
