#WalangPasok – May 21 2022 declared holiday in Malabon City
Malabon City will be marking its 423rd foundation day this May 21, Saturday.
It has been declared a special non-working holiday according to Proclamation 1341, which Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed in behalf of President Rodrigo Duterte last April 6. Read the full text of Proclamation 1341 in this link.
The city used to be called “Tambobong” a reference to the “tambo” plants that are endemic to the area. During the Spanish period, it was under the administration of Augustinian Friars as its visita or parish together with its neighboring town of Navotas.
After the end of Spanish occupation, Malabon became a municipality of the Rizal Province as mandated by Philippine Commission Act No. 137 (1900). It was later reunited with the town of Navotas through Philippine Commission Act No. 942.
By January 6, 1906, Malabon and Navotas were re-established as two distinct towns, and the set-up remained up to the present. malabon and Navotas, together with the cities of Caloocan and Valenzuela, are now collectively referred to as the “CaMaNaVa” area.
Pay Rules For Araw ng Malabon – May 21, 2022
According to the 2022_DOLE_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle will be in effect on special non-working holidays like the foundation anniversary of Malabon City.
In other words, workers who are not required or permitted to work on May 21, 2022 in Malabon City are not entitled to any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that provides for that.
Meanwhile, the handbook mentions that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
