#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for April 8 2024
(UPDATE, APRIL 7 2024: The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that asyncrhonous and other distance learning modalities will be implemented in all public preschool, elementary, and high schools across the country for April 8, Monday. DepEd made the announcement this Sunday afternoon. The agency however clarified that the advisory does not cover private schools.)
Mountain Province will be celebrating its 57th founding anniversary this April 8.
The day has been declared a special non-working holiday in Mountain Province as stipulated in President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation 503. The holiday can potentially give those studying and working in the said province a rare five-day weekend because the occassion falls on a Monday right before Araw ng Kagitingan and Eid’l Fitr.
In his proclamation, Marcos noted that the province’s actual foundation anniversary is on April 7, Sunday, but its governor requested the Palace to declare the following Monday as a holiday instead.
Pay Rules for the April 8, 2024 holiday in Mountain Province
According to the 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle should be in effect during special non-working holidays like this year’s celebration of Mountain Province’s founding anniversary.
This means that workers who are not required or permitted to work in Mountain Province on April 8 are not due to receive any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that implements that.
The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
