Araw ng Valenzuela – February 14, 2013

Residents of Valenzuela City will have a special working holiday this February 14 (Thursday), and it is not because it’s Valentine’s Day. The said Metro Manila city will be marking its 15th cityhood anniversary date on the aforementioned day. A special working holiday, according to rules set by the Department of Labor of Employment, should be treated just like any ordinary working day. Hence, working on this day will not give you premium pay.*

From being a municipality, Valenzuela was converted into a highly urbanized city through Republic Act 8526. RA 8526 took effect in 1998 during the administration of then-President Fidel V. Ramos. Click here to read the full text of RA 8526. February 14 became officially known as “Araw ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela” by virtue of RA 9428, which came into effect during the time of then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Read RA 9428 here.

ERRATUM: An earlier version of this post incorrectly states that February 14 is a special non-working holiday in the said city. Our sincere apologies.
