June 11 2013 holiday in Rizal

The province of Rizal will be celebrating its 112th foundation day anniversary on June 11, Tuesday. The day is a special non-working holiday in the province as stipulated in Proclamation 583 which Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. last May 28.

Malacanang is yet to post the full text of the proclamation on its website but the provincial government of Rizal The Palace made a similar declaration last year.

Rizal province came into being in June 11, 1901 through Act No. 137 of the Second Philippine Commission. Led by William Howard Taft, the commission acted on the proposal by Dr. Trinidad Pardo de Tavero regarding the unification of both Manila and Morong into one province.

It was composed initially of 19 towns of Manila Province, and 14 municipalities of Morong Politico-Military District. Much of these territories are now part of the National Capital Region.
