#SingitPaMore? – Kim Chiu denies getting special treatment from COMELEC
Like a lot of her fellow young Filipinos, Kapamilya actress Kim Chiu went to a Commission on Election (COMELEC) office during the last week of October presumably to register as a new voter.
However, instead of being commended, netizens were criticizing Chiu after an 80-second video of her surfaced showing that COMELEC officers in Marikina let her register without falling in line unlike regular citizens who came during the same time. It was originally uploaded in the Facebook Page Kupal Lord.
In the clip, the man recording the video can be heard angrily challenging COMELEC staffers in the satellite office why they let Chiu register ahead of those who came before her.
Male: “Miss, bakit po nauna ang mga ito (pertaining to Chiu and her group)? Hindi naman nakapila yan.”
COMELEC official: (Responds incoherently)
Male: “Yung mga hindi pumila, ilalabas natin ito sa Facebook.”
Female: “Kim Chiu yan e.”
Male: “Wala akong pakialam kung sino sya.”
The video has received over one million hits and nearly 25,000 shares since it was uploaded late Wednesday night. The young actress swiftly responded to the negative publicity through her Twitter account. “Don’t judge if you don’t know the real story. Don’t base sa kung anong nakikita ng mata. Know everything first bago mag-kwento,” she wrote shortly after the video first gained attention among netizens.
Later on, Chiu explained that she in fact arrived in the mall around 7:30 AM of October 27 because she had a flight to the United States that afternoon. She added that her road manager fell in line for her and that she only went to the registration area.
