Teatro Tomasino presents “Kasaray Duma” this May 2018
Teatro Tomasino, the official theater group of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), will have “Kasaray Duma: Mga Supling ng Sigwa” as its last offering for its 40th theatrical season.
Penned by Palanca Award-winning writer Eljay Castro Deldoc, “Kasaray Duma” features the story of a proud island tribe threatened to be torn apart by greed, conflict, and a country that ignores their birthright, identity, and culture. It is a theme that can resonate to a lot of Filipinos, especially those from the rural areas.
Through “Kasaray Duma,” Teatro Tomasino said it hopes to promote the need for cultural and environmental preservation among its patrons as well as to initiate discourse on the rightful place of Filipino ethnicity in a so-called progressive society.
In a press statement, the theater organization also pointed out that they will donate a percentage of the production’s proceeds to Save Our Schools (S.O.S.) Network, a group that aims to build more schools for the Lumad people in Mindanao.
It is worth mentioning that “Kasaray Duma” has been officially included by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in its endorsed activities for the celebration of the National Literature Month.
