Psy December 20 2012 Manila concert is canceled

Korean music superstar Psy’s (Park Jae Sang in real life) scheduled concert in Manila this December 20 will no longer push through, radio station DZMM reported Tuesday night. Concert producer Joed Serrano of Thats Ntertainment and Ovation Productions stated that logistical issues triggered the postponement.

He mentioned February 2013 as the tentative new date for Psy’s Philippine concert. “Psy remains extremely excited about visiting the Philippines and looks forward to performing for his fans in early 2013,” Serrano added.

Dubbed by its promoters as the “biggest concert of 2012,” “The Gangnam Show” is supposed to be held in the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. Several local celebrities including Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, Pokwang, Pooh, K Brosas, Wally and Jose, Ate Gay, and Ai Ai De Las Alas were slated to appear during the show. Ticket prices range from P530 (general admission) up to P8,980 (VIP-C). Part of the concert proceeds will go to the Ciara Marie Foundation and the victims of Typhoon Pablo.

Psy’s “Gangnam Style” music video has received over 974 million views since it was uploaded in YouTube last July, making it the most watched video in the website’s history – surpassing Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” Psy was also nominated to be Tima magazine’s person of the year for 2012, ranking 17th over-all in the online voting.

PS: This blogger thinks that the main reason behind the decision to abruptly cancel Psy’s December 20 is low ticket sales. Prior to Gangnam Style, virtually no Filipino except K-Pop fanatics has probably heard of him. Is it worth it spending quite a fortune to watch a concert of a musician who’s essentially a one-hit wonder?

  1. Oh my. The concert has been posponed. I have bought the ticket early and also for the plane ticket. Our plane ticket costs more than the cost of psy concert. Is JOED SERRANO is going to refund our plane ticket? Wow!
